The National Bank of Rwanda is in charge of regulating and supervising banks. The current banking industry is composed of:
- Commercial Banks
- Development Bank and
- Microfinance Banks
The supervisory tools used in supervising the above banks include:
- Offsite surveillance methodologies such as CAMELS model that stands for; Capital,Assets Quality, Earning, Liquidity and Sensitivity to market;
- Onsite inspections: for the purpose of assessing risk management quality and compliance; and
- Risk Based Supervision.
