The National Bank of Rwanda is in charge of regulating and supervising banks. The current banking industry is composed of:

 

  • Commercial Banks
  • Development Bank and
  • Microfinance Banks

The supervisory tools used in supervising the above banks include:

  • Offsite surveillance methodologies such as CAMELS model that stands for; Capital,Assets Quality, Earning, Liquidity to market;
  • Onsite inspections: for the purpose of assessing risk management quality and compliance; and
  • Risk Based Supervision.
