Consumer Price Index, October 2021

 

In October 2021, the Rwandan urban consumer price index remained constant at 0.6% month-on-month as of previous month. Year-on-year, inflation stood at 0.6% higher than a decrease of 0.9% recorded in September 2021. Compared to the previous month, prices of local goods and services decreased by 1.4% y-o-y, which is lower than a decrease of 2.9% y-o-y recorded in September 2021 while prices for imported goods increased by 7.1% y-o-y, which is higher than an increase of 5.4% y-o-y in September 2021.

On monthly basis, the inflation increased by 0.6% hence remained constant in comparison to previous month as inflationary pressures from Food and non-alcoholic beverages was eased by 0.4% from an increase of 1.7% of the previous month.

Year-on-year, consumer price index increased by 0.6% in October 2021 compared to 0.9% decrease in September 2021 due to inflationary pressures from Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics  (+4.1%) and Education which increased by 19.2% in October 2021.

Excluding fresh food products and energy, consumer price index increased by 2.6% in October 2021, which is higher than 0.5% of September 2021. Fresh products decreased by 7.5% in October 2021 hence remained constant in comparison to the previous month. Energy prices increased by 1.8% in October 2021, which is slightly lower than an increase of 2.0% in September 2021.
